March Madness vs. the BC$
Last night, mid-major Butler was one shot away from beating Duke and winning the NCAA men’s basketball championship.
Last January, mid-majors TCU and Boise State had no shot at all of winning the NCAA football championship.
The Butler-Duke game was one of the best basketball games I’ve ever seen. Everyone was talking about it this morning. The media are calling it an instant classic.
Meanwhile, TCU and Boise met in theQuarantine Bowl Separate but Equal Bowl Fiesta Bowl in a rematch of the two teams’ postseason game (the Poinsettia Bowl) from the 2008-2009 season. And while it too was a good game, it didn’t mean anything. It had no effect whatsoever on the championship discussion. A few days later, preseason picks Alabama and Texas met for the ‘national’ championship.
That’s right: the two title game participants were effectively picked before the season even started.
Explain to me once again why the BC$ is better than a playoff. I keep forgetting.

I've never liked the way the BCS is set up. I think playoffs make more sense, but who knows if anything will ever happen to change the current system.
