Yes, I'm a Geek

It's Student Body Officer elections season at my high school. Outside my classroom the other day, I found a poster for one of the candidates. It showed him dressed as a Jedi and carried the caption, "He's one with the Force!"

Just for laughs, I put a sticky note with the following message at the bottom of the poster:

'Force' is a concept of Physics, which is taught across the hall in room 202. We apologize for any misunderstanding. -OHS Science Department

The sticker stayed up for nearly two days, but at the end of school yesterday, I discovered that someone had removed it.

Some people just don't get geek humor, I guess.

March Madness vs. the BC$

Last night, mid-major Butler was one shot away from beating Duke and winning the NCAA men’s basketball championship.

Last January, mid-majors TCU and Boise State had no shot at all of winning the NCAA football championship.

The Butler-Duke game was one of the best basketball games I’ve ever seen. Everyone was talking about it this morning. The media are calling it an instant classic.

Meanwhile, TCU and Boise met in the Quarantine Bowl Separate but Equal Bowl Fiesta Bowl in a rematch of the two teams’ postseason game (the Poinsettia Bowl) from the 2008-2009 season. And while it too was a good game, it didn’t mean anything. It had no effect whatsoever on the championship discussion. A few days later, preseason picks Alabama and Texas met for the ‘national’ championship.

That’s right: the two title game participants were effectively picked before the season even started.

Explain to me once again why the BC$ is better than a playoff. I keep forgetting.
